Mary Shelley is the author of Frankenstein: or The Modern
Prometheus. She was an English novelist who was born on February 1st
1797. All but one of her children died
while they were infants. Her most famous novel was adapted into the film
Frankenstein. A modern misconception of Frankenstein is that the monster
created is named Frankenstein, but actually the doctor whom created the monster
is named Dr. Frankenstein.
The film is based off of a play that is based off the book.
So, unsurprisingly the film has many differences from Shelley’s book.
The monster in the film does not communicate the same way as
it does in the book. The monster in the novel longed for companionship and
begged its maker for a wife. The
appearance is also different in that Hollywood has transformed the monster into
a flat headed gigantic human. There is no problem with the way Hollywood depicts
the monster, but the differences are staggering.
The film produced a multitude of other films all including the Frankenstein name.
Bride of Frankestein (1935)
Son of Frankenstein (1939)
Ghost of Frankenstein (1942)
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943)
The original Frankenstein grossed 53,000 in the first week.
