Norm's speech about being trapped while he is talking with Marion, was this the mother part of him talking? I was assuming this speech was meant to symbolize the struggle with the two different personalities, each trying to take over in the one body.
I don't know, but what really creeps me out is the overbearing mother theme. It was pointed out in the panel bio of Hitchcock that he had an overbearing mother. Most, if not all his movies, feature overbearing mothers(women). So to all the mothers out there, beware of what you may create. Someone just might make it into a movie.
ReplyDeleteoooh, I thought he was eluding that he had been institutionalized! But, now that you mention it, I could it meaning an internal struggle between the two personalities.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was the son part of him talking, because of his over bearing mother. A smothering mother could make a child feel trapped. I understand how one can see the internal struggle between the two personalities as being the reason he was talking about being trapped.
ReplyDeleteI think that everything that he did revolved around his mother. Either his mothers personality was taking over him, or he was himself, but deeply influenced by his mother. No matter what personality he was at that time, his mother played a large influence on him.
ReplyDeleteI think he is talking about his two personalities conflicting with one another to live out loud.
ReplyDeleteI also think Norman felt very trapped by his mother when he was growing up and then couldn't get away from her even when she had grown older and died. Even after she died he was still trapped by her presence inside of his head.
